We know, some of you were skeptical. You wondered, “can these guys really keep it up for a 5th month in a row?” It’s a question the ladies ask us all the time - and our answer to you is the same as our answer to them: kinda. Put it on your hard drive here and let us know what you think.

I’m having mixed emotions while enjoying yet another great G7 Radio i.e. hearing that bullshit propaganda they’re printing on their joke of a “News” source(fuck the Aspers)the National Post. Then right after that hearing great fucking bands!!!!! You guys played fucking Bad Brains, Minor Threat…and I dig all the other songs you guys played. On two different notes, I have recently heard Hiretsukan and I will be ordering it as I get my shitty pay check. The other thing is….I was wondering if any of you dudes have read “Behold a Pale Horse”. I just got done reading it and I have to say it’s a very exposing and mandatory read in my opinion. If you buttholes haven’t read the book…I think you guys would enjoy it. ANOTHER GREAT EPISODE, KEEP ‘EM COMIN’!!!!!
p.s.

I think this book has been mentioned here before, but for the iran/propaganda business, Other Lands Have Dreams by Kathy Kelly is really inspiring and really relevant. Also for the general quagmire that is the police/prison industry. Woman is good!
Todd and I do the same sort of work, spooooooooooky! And yeah, K’Naan sounded amazing. Every month something cute gets through the net. This month; glasg-oow!

Again, you’ve somehow managed to pull out of your collective ass a very funny and inspiring radio show. Heck, even my friends that have displayed little or no interest in any form of politics have even taken a shine to this - and made better use of own their time for it.
The music has thus far been rocking too. Power to my Sub Zero through the ridicouluos London traffic.

Comment by gerty on June 10th, 2006 at 6:06 pm:
hi pallies.
I really REALLY hope that your podcasts continue for years and years. they are getting more entertaining while keeping up the good task of exposing bad information. gravvy. A few years ago on pbs i saw a program that followed a guy around who had “religious” experiences come and go to the point where he’d break down and cry and think he was seeing god. this apparently had been a type of syndrom and they studied it and could get a point to a general area in the brain where the stimulation was occuring. But i don’t know if it necessarilly cancels out “god” since similarly you can stimulate the brain to smell burnt toast for example. however that doesnt mean that people only imagine burnt toast. I’m thoroughly agnostic and of course religious should be a private choice but i think everyone should always be critical and look for the truth. but this has really positive prospects too! cuz they’ve known for a little while now that buddist masters while meditating litteraly / scientifically stimulate happiness. so hopefully next time i won’t have to take mounds of drugs to experience any soma holidays.
love you.

Im confused, but forgive me for the probable repeated question.
its been a while since i checked the G7 site i saw u guys were doing Radio and via podcasts, i was like cool ill listen. In Episode 3, you guys play the NOFX song and it says
“The people’s revolution is gonna be a podcast…Still I’m waiting to see if my bid on eBay was enough
To get “Today’s Empires Are Tomorrow’s Ashes” on soviet red vinyl
It’s going on the wall next to “Tubthumper” and “The Battle Of Los Angeles”
Of Los Angeles”
and then in Episode 5 i believe, you guys mention Tubthumper next to Battle on the wall. So my question is which one is playing off the other?
Comment by Anthony on June 11th, 2006 at 5:13 am:
This post is in response to rascals question. Here’s the situation…Propagandhi wrote a song titled “Rock for Sustainable Capitalism” on Potemkin City Limits. That song put Fat Mike in his place like hes never realized. Ever since then, Fat Mike has attempted to write song lyrics coming back at Chris/Propagandhi but they actually turn out childish and of poor quality. NO-EFFECTs wrote some shitty lyric that Derek and Chris were ripping on. Listen to episode 4. also, To Chris or Derek…..you guys might like the band Leftover Crack. I picked up the album “Mediocre Generica” and its fuckin’ crazy.

Nice to see something like Welcome Place going on in this time where Canadians are told we are shocked that there would be an act of terror on our soil, and the blaming of immigrants goes on. It is almost like if the evil that (wo)men do lives on and on. (hint to play some Maiden)

I second that request for Maiden. Run to the Hills is a track would be fitting with the events going on near Winnipeg regarding indigenous peoples. Also, anyone hear the new Slayer song called “Cult”? I realize they’re not exactly a progressive band, but they are definitely on the right side of the trenches regarding religion. Here’s the refrain to said song:
“Religion is hate. Religion is fear. Religion is war … Religion is rape. Religion’s obscene. Religion’s a whore.”
Spot on!
Besides that, the song is speed-metal at it’s best in my humble opinion. Lombardo is the god of rythym and Jord is his mighty right hand.

talking about cyclists, everyone should seriously start thinking about bikes as your regular means of transportation…though i rely on mass transit right now, i probably won’t be buying any type of car in my life and i will definitely be riding a bike instead…especially after i watched “AN INCOVENIENT TRUTH”
i’d suggest everyone to see this documentary. and no this movie IS NOT a campaign by Al Gore to re-elect himself. instead it is one of the most compelling documentaries on GLOBAL WARMING, which this movie presents as such an urgent issue that if we don’t do our part, like riding bikes to work, we are seriously creating a catastrophe that pales in comparision to any terrorist threat.
support all cyclists and those who advocate riding bikes!
P.S. Hope the three skids made it alive after their run! I can’t run a mile myself.

ahahaha! Yes. Yeesss!!! I fuckin’ knew it! Todd. That guy fucking rules. How about those songs he picked eh? That K’Naan song is the fucking track of the summer(for this guy). I went and bought that record as sooon as I heard that tune. Money well spent. I thought the show overall kicked ass. Some killer songs and good informcmation. For whatever reason I pooped my panties when I heard Chris say ‘I can dig it’ during the Todd segment. Who knows…
Inconvenient truth eh… Ya, that sounds like a must see. There’s a pretty neat documentary out there called ‘Metal: a headbangers journey’ I recommend that one for sure. They play a clip of Venom doing ‘blood lust’ and fuck me it kicks ass. Although Lemmy would say otherwise (apparently). Cough. Hint. Gurgle. Fart. Don’t hesitate to play ‘blood lust’.
Anyways, thanks again fuckos. Keep the fun coming. Just, don’t be late with the next episode. Or, I will find you, kill you, and fucking eat what I can’t fuck. Just kidding. I love you. Keeping me in suspense. I can dig it. World Peace.

as for using bikes more, i totally agree. i basically stopped using my car about a year ago. not only is it better for the enviornment, but its so much more fun. when your in a car it feels like you are so isolated from everything, but on a bike you experience the world first hand, without any barrier, and its so much better that way.

FUCK ITUNES!
Comment by D-Rock on June 13th, 2006 at 9:12 am:
Poo: (haha) We do in fact provide direct download links to every show individually, along with our XML feed address for people who want to subscribe to the show with any enclosure-enabled feed reader. The iTunes link is there for those who wish to subscribe via iTunes with one click. We’re not trying to push anyone to iTunes, and have no reason to do so.
As for selling G7 albums via iTunes, it’s just another option for people. We are no fans of the digital rights managment iTunes employs, but we are also not fans of HMV, Hot Topic, or any other major chain store our CDs appear in. Many download services G7 digital music is available through are DRM-free (eMusic and DownloadPunk come to mind), so there are better options for people who wish to buy our stuff that way.

All that said though, it’s an interesting study, and I think you guys presented it fairly well. It’s just from what I’ve read of neuropsychology in the past, it makes sweeping assumptions through sketchy “scientific” experiments.

Leftöver Crack would be welcome, you can’t go wrong with a song called Apple Pie and Police State! Comment by shitbag on June 14th, 2006 at 5:25 pm:
all this smack-talking about the weakerthans is bullshit. John K. and Co. opened up a new world of ideas to me through their explicitly political lyrical themes. And its hard not to listen to them without becoming a passionate advocate for justice.
The Weakerthans changed my life. No other band even comes close to them in terms of political influence aside from NOFX.
Comment by shitbag on June 14th, 2006 at 5:30 pm:
I guess propagandhi has been somewhat influential too, except that a lot of their messages are muddled and passionless and its hard to tell where they stand on alotta things. They also seem like they tend to flip-flop on alotta issues.

Comment by poo on June 15th, 2006 at 8:38 am:
Hi this is poo again.
In regards to all that bullshit. Propagandhi, Ispy and the weakerthans are all great bands. Whoever says that NOFX are a political influence is a fuck face, do I listen to NOFX?”Yes” Do I find a band inteligent and politically motivating when they stand up and sing “idiot son of an asshole” with the remainder of the lyrics to back it up being about as intelligent as a two year old farting!!!NO!!
Now.. getting back to John K Shitson.. why I said he wouldn’t be on the show.. is cuz well when propagandhi broke up christoph and him argued about money.. and more recently Glen wrote some lyrics about the little girl and his poetic lyrics. Nothing to do with going to epitaph… but still maybe they can get their own skate shoe made now?? It will be called the vans green wallpaper edition.
In summary no band comes close to propagandhi, their lyrics are so right on, chris is the best guitar player , todds hillarious, jords a penis on wheels. And this band have always stuck to their guns.. never selling out their beliefs for a bit of pocket change.. this means a lot to me.. unlike other so called political bands who write all these yay we’re going to save the world lyrics and then promote sweatshop made shoes/guitars/dildos in the linear notes of their albums.

poo: i may be wrong, but i dont think fedallah’s hearse is specifically about samson’s songs. samson’s lyrics are just more personal political, its a different approach, but there is still a ton of meaning in his lyrics. im sure chris can see that, as G7 did release 2 of the weakerthans albums. and their epitaph release has the same lyrical voice that is consistent throughout all of the weakerthans albums. i do understand what is being expressed in the said propagandhi song, but i really dont think its directed to john’s writing. but then again, what the fuck do i know!?
Comment by Benjamin Grundy on June 15th, 2006 at 1:42 pm:
I always thought the lyrics of Fedallah’s Hearse was about that dude from Moby Dick. Seriously though, I thought it was about politicians and the horrid fallacious spew that eminates from their mouths.
Comment by poo on June 15th, 2006 at 7:43 pm:
yeah.. u could be right.. I just have a feeling that chris and shitson don’t talk anymore… maybe he could clarify this for us..
You know I would really like to hear chris talk a bit more about his songs.. the process he goes through of writing / recording them and anything else he’d like to throw in. I know this would probably distract from his true motivation for writing his songs (get his political views out) for a few moments but it would be very interesting.

Or. We could just mind our own fucking business.
Do we really need to know the deep underpining nature of every nuance of every song and every relational drama of every band’s roster change. I think not. I could give a rat’s pink n’ puckered bumhole personally. Besides, any artist with any sense of humour would probably fuck with us mercilessly surrounding such things just to prove the aforementioned point anyway. I know I would.
A sage once opined …. that things are more beautiful when they are more obscure. Or there’s beauty in obscurity. Or never to trust anything a man says when he has erection. Something like that there, eh.
Comment by drew on June 15th, 2006 at 9:14 pm:
“that would be good. the whole Propagandhi/JKS thing would make for an interesting episode, i think..”
i dont really think that is important. basically johnny john john was “cut from an entirely different piece of fabric” than the speed metal prop boys, and was interested in playing different music, which worked out great in the end, because the rod i think is perfect for propagandhi. so doing an episode on that whole thing would be kind of silly. but as for having john on the show talking about what he is doing these days pertaining to arbiter ring etc, now that would be pretty cool.

i wasn’t so interested in the whole johnny shitson thing cuz he is a shitson.. but.. the rest of that crap I said about chris discussing a bit more about his songs the band etc.. i think would make for a very interesting show.. because they dont do enough interviews etc.. and i’m very interested in his whole song..writing process/recording etc..etc… Like I noticed on the linear notes of potemkin it said some of the songs were arranged with some other ppl.. who are they? .. does he write the lyrics/music first.. how long do some of these songs take to process from the writing stage to the recording etc..etc..
And lets face it.. we all think they’re amazing songs .. right?
Well wouldn’t it be interesting to find out how this genious gets to the end point.
yeah i think so I think so :D

Comment by jeremy on June 16th, 2006 at 12:19 pm:
I kinda thought “Fedallah’s Hearse” was more or less about the way maintsream academia tends to support concentrated wealth and power, and is rewarded for it, all the while posing as being critical and independent. No?
Comment by dongdong on June 16th, 2006 at 2:28 pm:
Regarding “fedallah’s hearse”, from an interview at lollipop.com…
Q: Regarding your criticism of music journalists: do you think we are all bitter ex-musicians filling the pages with nonsense just to sell ads? If so, why deal with us at all? And even if all music journalists are ex-musicians, would you recommend that they abandon their love for music – if not the creating of, then at least the support of through their publications – in exchange for a “real job” when they are still trying to “spread the word?”
Chris: Well, no doubt there’s some hyperbole and broad-brushes in there for the purpose of illustrating a private speculation about the symbiosis between music and music journalism these days. I feel it’s safe to suggest that there is, in fact, almost no actual journalism involved in the process. Stenography, yes. Journalism, no. I would never suggest anyone abandon their love of music: only that they not become cheerleaders for crap in exchange for advertising revenue.
Comment by drew on June 16th, 2006 at 2:28 pm:
yea i thought fadallah’s hearse is more or less about how people with any amount of clout or influence in mainstream society, be it a news pundit, a politician, a journalist, etc…and how they have a particular way of watering down what it is they are saying to the point of saying, in effect, nothing at all, so as to keep the status quo afloat and not cause much questioning and controversey. which kind of goes along with what jeremy said too.
Comment by D-Rock on June 16th, 2006 at 3:25 pm:
Like Drew mentioned, I was a pivotal creative force in the making of PCL, and Fedallah’s Hearse was the one song I actually wrote the lyrics for in addition to arranging the music. So, to clear things up here - no, this song has nothing to do the Weakerthans.
Fedallah was my younger brother. This song is about his funeral. He died in the pit at the Warped Tour.

I noticed in the linear notes that there were some other arrangers etc.. so its not just three skids eh??? this is getting more and more like a brittany spears album all the time LOL.. did you have “session musicians & vocalists come into the studio as well” With some nerd at the computer piecing it all together and then chris jord and todd just came in for the “studio photoshoot” & that was it HAHAH
Also.. i think drew& jeremy got what they lyrics are about pretty spot on.. id just heard that it was about the weakerthans .. suppose you shouldnt believe everything you hear on CNN.

While songs like Life at Disconnect, Cut into the Earth, March of the Crabs and Fuck the Border are all tolerable (kinda); I think it is safe to say that “Anchorless” is the best Propagandhi song ever. Period.
Also, I don’t know a fart of piss about the Weakerheads, but I always picture Derek as being the front-man, and, hence, the ‘old’ bass player of Propagandhi. Weird eh?
I always thought Fedallah’s Hearse was about a whale’s Vagina too. Oh well, agree to disagree I suppose.

i was listening to anuradhati roy’s “come september” lecture cd today. she described a chilean musician’s execution during pinochet’s rule. soldiers cut off his hands in front of a crowd in a stadium and broke his guitar and threw it at him while mockingly asking him to play a song before they shot him. and i thought to myself - that’s the real power of music; that it can be such a threat that the establishment would go at such lengths to destroy it. and then i realized, not a single band at the Warped Tour could possibly comprehend “music’s power to describe, compel, renew…” and then i had a sinking feeling…

I went to All Tommorrows Parties here in the UK, on the south coast. It was a revelation, we stayed in chalets, saw some amazing bands (Sleater Kinney, Dinosaur Jnr, Joanna Newsom) and it proved that music festivals dont need shitty corporate sponserships, as if it even needed proving. AND, get this, i ran into Jason Tait (of the Weakerthans), who played drums for Broken Social Scene, another great Canadian band. He was the nicest guy ever, and told me that The Weakerthans (bar John Samson) were the backing band for Greg Graffins (of Bad Religion, you shouldnt need telling) new solo record due out this year. He said its gonna be great, folk acoustic kinda stuff. I dont really no what my point is, mainly just stop dissing the Weakerthans, and stop assuming (just some of you) you know everything about band/member relations. Theres a thing that exists called ” a personal life “. I think a show about the current state of “punk” rock would be great, maybe get someone from a well established punk band on to talk about Co-opting with big business etc. Maybe that was the idea with Jello? Merely a suggestion…
peace out

Fist of all, the vocals for anchorless are a fucking joke. Shitson does not fit with Propagandhi at all. Whenever I listen to Less Talk More Rock, I get pissed of whenever I here Shitsons voice. He just delays the message and fucks up what could’ve been otherwise good songs. Todd is the perfect fit for Propagandhi. His songs are relevant, not to mention some of my favorite Propagandhi songs. When I tell people to check out Propagandhi, I tell them to start with the last two albums. GORILLA BISCUITS

i think samson was a great match for the earlier sounds of propagandhi, just as todd is awsome for the more thrashier sounds as of late. plus, now we get the weakerthans, which are one of the best bands around. john did some great stuff in prop, but him leaving for the weakerthans, and todd coming in ended up being a great thing. ya know??!
Comment by Hairhole on June 17th, 2006 at 10:55 pm:
Oooooh Samson wasn’t thhaaaat bad! You have to remember, it’s not fair to compare anyone to that glorious human being Todd, and the subsequent new sound of ’said’ gandhi: it’s fucking untouchable!!!
Early Propagandhi kicks ass and means a lot to me. I would never poke fun at any of their stuff (accept for maybe anchorless, just ’cause it’s sound is soo different from anything else on that record). Hmmm, ya, so what i’m tryiiing to say is, I think Less Talk More Cock is probably the best Propagandhi record to recommend to Prop virgins. Specifically, the liner notes and lyrics are a pretty good indication of what one can expect from these gomers.

I think you guys might be jumping to conclusions by giving the neurology study such strong credit as a possible basis for religious or spiritual “experiences”.
Yes, the study -produced- results that sound like what somebody who had a religious episode experienced, but the study in no way tests whether such experiences occur through the same processes of the study?
Understand? If I shoot myself I will die, but that doesn’t mean that everyone who has died did so because of a gunshot.
I’m sure it is an interesting phenomenon but let’s not blow these findings out of proportion in a National Postesque fashion.
Relatedly, (if that is a word), I think this article by Micheal Shermer gives a good attempt to explain the nature of “the spirit”.

I guess I agree with jackass’s point about neuropsychology. We don’t need this type of scientific evidence to prove how moronic cathololics see jesus in grilled cheese sandwhiches and woman seeing gualalupe in mexico. Eventhough there may be a chemical explanation for such events, it doesn’t mean people can’t learn from them.
Who else enjoys a good shroom trip? Of course the drugs mess with our senses, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t learn from the experience. Maybe these mystical experiences do help us find the truth.
This scientific/rational view of the world is boring, black and white, and narrow minded, confined to the paradigm of mechanics set forth my Newton.
What a boring view of the world. Again, this dreaded view of the earth and how humans are connected to it doesn’t escape the political vegan. Don’t preach about saving animals when all you see in nature and gears and rational explanations. I’m an atheist but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the earth.
Rip away my friends.

In response to jackass’s point about neurospychology being not credible: How do you think emotions, sensations, and perceptions come about? It isn’t magic, it’s the result of the activity of networks of neurons, and thus can be studied scientifically just like your circulatory system and erectile disfunction.
Comment by gerty on June 23rd, 2006 at 12:29 pm:
i dont really understand how you think they went “national postesque” when they were talking about this stuff, and even if they did they aren’t a news source they are a couple people talking about their opinions. and what the hell is scott talking about dont preach about animals when all you see the world in is gears and rational explanations… huh why not preach about saving life and how is that NOT related to appreciating the earth?
I think what i said before about scientists reproducing in a patient the smell of burnt toast by stimulating parts of the brain. there was no burnt toast present in the room. but the patient smelt it. no this doesnt cancel out the existence of burnt toast. like how the god helmet thing doesnt cancel out god necessarily. Point is though this brings us one step closer to finding out the truth, in how we experience god and perhaps what god is which very well could be just a thought that gives us hope, hope that saves us from plumeting to our deaths. Good for G7 prodding into this stuff. I wish people on here wouldn’t jump to their own conclusions and invent conclusions for people you dont really know and relax a bit.

I think any doubt that can be cast on rationalizations for foreign policy along the lines of “God told me to wage war on Iraq” is a positive development.
If you can give someone the sense of God telling them something by magnetizing the right side of their head, then gee, maybe Bush’s idea that God talks to him is also not based so much in reality.
And if you can show that, then maybe eventually people will be more hesitant to line up behind imperialist foreign policy without a little more rigorous justification from our leaders than “God told me to”… because maybe God didn’t tell him anything, maybe he was just sitting too close to the microwave.
Makes sense to me.

I don’t think it has been proven that there is a causal relationship between the brain and emotions. I think it’s been proven that there’s a correlation between the two. As far as I know, when one feels happy, the brain acts a certain way. This doesn’t mean that the brain is making you be happy, as the other option is that the emotion is making the brain act in certain ways. Science has not proven anything either way, and i’m not sure how science could prove anything either way. Brains acts certain ways when religious experience happens, but that could means it’s the biological translation of a metaphysical experience (it could also mean the opposite, it’s inconclusive.)
You may call this “magic”, I call it a “mind”, and metaphysics. I know science doesn’t believe in metaphysics, but that’s only because science cannot prove or disprove metaphysics, and therefore ignores it.
Science is a method to find out the truth. It is not the only valid method to find out the truth, and shouldn’t be treated as such. It should be treated as a tool that can be used well in certain situations.
Pirsig looks into the limitations of science in “the zen and the art of motorcycle maintenence”, and Kuhn studies the history of science, showing the nature of how it progresses in “the strucutre of scientific revolutions”. I think both are good read concerning how people should view science, the latter being more academic than the first.

Isn’t it sad that this is even a sentence that needed to be voiced? How stupid we are to have believed this for thousands of years. At the same time, if we did not do these things in the name of God, I’m pessimistic enough to believe we would accomplish them regardless. No God to sanction the killing? Well, how about the slaughter of a nation state so ol’ Mellanus doesn’t feel so impotent when he can’t satisfy his wife, how about in the name of social/communistic revolution (it’s for your own good, and fun too!) like Mao and Sar accomplished, how about to save humanity against those who dare to make weapons similar to our own. Theology is intensely interesting and no doubt influences many, if not most, things in society, but that does not mean we would be any better without it. Afterall, apes like to chase monkeys through the trees and bash their heads in for fun. Let the good times roll.
Comment by Jennifer on June 25th, 2006 at 6:33 pm:
Dude, what the fuck people.
I’d expect more maturity from people who listen to this show. “Shitson?” That not only is not nice (as someone kindly pointed out earlier) - but, more importantly - that is downright immature. I’m sure by the end of middle school, everyone (including pre-pubed “gangstas” and “skaters”) would have gotten over name-calling, eh?
“and more recently Glen wrote some lyrics about the little girl and his poetic lyrics. Nothing to do with going to epitaph… but still maybe they can get their own skate shoe made now?? It will be called the vans green wallpaper edition.”
Not only is this a totally bastardized and shitfaced interpretation of Fedallah’s Hearse, but what the fuck? “Little girl?” Dude, suck my fucking dick. Thanks for reinforcing structured gender roles in our society. As for Fedallah’s Hearse - The Weakerthans may have dipped their toes into the sewage of mainstream popularity (Wedding Crashers, I bought a Weakerthans ringtone on my shitty cellphone, and what the fuck - why would far superior musicians play music for an ugly man that can’t do better than have sex with random girls over the internet?) but in no way would they endorse direct pools of corporate power (shoe companies), although I suspect that they would sign onto a major label. I’m sure John K. is still adamant with this politics, although it’s quite possible he’s mellowed out. The Weakerthans happen to be one of my favorite bands, and I while I will admit that some of their actions have “upset” me (overstatement) - all your bitter Weakerthans-bashing is unfounded and fucking childish. Save it for a conversation in Hot Topic. “OMGZ AVRIL SUCKS WHY DUN U LISSN TO REAL PUNK LIKE COHEE AND CAMRIBIA LOLZ” Don’t make a Propagandhi/Weakerthans feud/war parallel that.
I’m sure bringing John K. Samson to the show to talk about the state of Winnipeg and Arbiter would be interesting, he seems to be deeply involved in Winnipeg’s community. I would doubt that that would happen though.
As for early Propagandhi vs. current Propagandhi, I like them both. How to Clean Everything was the one album solely responsible for dragging me into the mysterious realms independent music - and Showdown just sealed the whole thing for me. Those duel vocals were infectious. Without Propagandhi’s transition from punk to thrash-ish type stuff, I don’t think I would have had much of an appreciation for harder music. I owe this band a whole fucking lot, regardless of Propagandhi with or without Samson.
Derek - you wrote Fedallah’s Hearse? Fucking awesome, I love that song - it sounded like something that would directly come from Chris’ mouth though. I’m thinking you need to record this song, sung straight from your mouth. U got skilLz boy!

Adding on to what jackass had to say:
Even if religious experiences could be created in a lab on demand (and I guess that is now possible) it would not be a particularly good reason to discount the existence of genuine religious experiences, as in caused by some supposed god, goddess, ultimate reality ect, as we can artificially create sensory experiences of other phenomena without disproving their existence. For example, if I hallucinate the sensory experience of seeing a elephant, while fucked on acid lets say, this would in no way lend any support to the claim “elephants do not exist” even though (as in the case of the ‘god machine’) the appearance of the elephant, in this case, had no connection to a shared external reality. To move from the fact that religious experiences can be simulated to the conclusion that there exists no genuine religious experiences is just to appeal to ignorance.

The metal is always on hand to fill the voids with greatness. Unfortunately the era of Metal we love wasn’t exactly stacked with too many female bands. Sentinal Beast, Detente, Sacrilege etc.. were all great bands but those are not around on Cd. anyway. I hear what you speak. your point is very, very well understood.
Hoggy is funny on this message board, by the way, “cork your cry hole” is a good ‘ern.
see ya Folks.
Comment by brent-o on June 29th, 2006 at 1:11 am:
Tom,
My point is that, in this case, the science in question is not valid evidence for the nonexistence of genuine religious experiences, and it would be a mistake to construe it as such. You’re right about the fallacy of justifying policy on religious dogma. That is, what is right and what is wrong are independent of any idea of god. The alternate to this view, for the theist, is that god determines right and wrong, but this leads the theist to the conclusion that good and bad, right and wrong are completely arbitrary (god could have just as easily made murder good). So even the most frantically fundamental fuck-head need not appeal to their supposed god for advice on matters of public policy, not that it stops many of them…

Comment by Jennifer on June 29th, 2006 at 11:14 am:
Tom, I think it’s rather immature to undermine the Weakerthans. Their actions don’t even compare to the whole punk voter thing, Against Me!, and the eons of other ‘punk’ bands that have signed onto major labels, etc. Oh no, they don’t write overtly political lyrics! Wow, what sellouts! What, they write POETRY? Poetry is for little girls!
Maybe it’s funny if you dislike the Weakerthans, but frankly, I’m not too amused.
And was I the one that missed out on the irony? I thought the last part of Derek’s comment was the only thing tinged with sarcasm, hm. Drew and Jeremy’s interpretations of the song were basically what I saw it as, but I didn’t nessesarily think it was targetted towards the Weakerthans. I guess I can see where they can be inserted into the equation, but that doesn’t invalidate the whole “let’s wait for the weakerthans to sponsor sweatshop made shoes!!!!!!111″ stuff from earlier. And I’ll still enjoy the song.

Tom - I wasn’t really infuriated, just defensive because no one else seemed to be defending the Weakerthans. I, myself, am actually critical of certain aspects of the Weakerthans and I do agree that they’ve definitely had some of their lyrics tinged with politics, but only beforehand - I think since signing onto Epitaph they’ve been exponentially compromising themselves. I guess that’s the whole thing that Fedallah’s Hearse /may/ be about. But seriosuly, folks. The Weakerthans are still on ‘our side’ moreso than the millions of other punk bands who are actually itching to get on the Warped Tour. They’re just not as outwardly manifesting as certain other bands (D4, Propagandhi, etc) are.
Samson established and works for Arbiter Ring Publishing, which is a radical book publisher in Winniped that I believe functions as a co-op like G7. Many proceeds the Weakerthans make are geared towards helping the inner structures of Winnipeg. They even posted a public service announcement of sorts, calling shit on the state of the city on their website. Etc. You can find a lot of this stuff on their website.

perhaps im an idiot, but i dont really see how the weakerthans have compromised their lyrical content since signing to epitaph. reconstruction site has many instances where the lyrics still deal with the personal poltical (i.e. alienation, disconnection, etc) that john has such an uncanny ability to write. his lyrics are always so good, at least in my opinion.

I just read some new crap in the news section of the propagandhi site.. I wish I lived in winnipeg how fucking cool would it be to go down to some festival in some park and there behind a mixing desk doing some live sound for some mexican jumping beans(or whatever they are) is the lead singer of the best fucking band out there.. right on to that… AHAHHA… i wonder what he’ll play when he’s warming up the PA system before the mexicanas come on… maybe a little bit of megadeth eh?

Compromising lyrics wasn’t what I was exactly going for, but their lyrics have definitely turned fair weathered - there aren’t any blatant lyrics about politics (”this brand new strip mall…”; “we’ll tape some notes to the heavy machines…” - and then songs like Exiles and Confessions).

John K. Shitson was crying at a local hardcore show the other night because the bands we’re screaming.

DID HE HAVE some green wallpaper to wipe his tears away?? DID HE DID HE?? did he have his favourite chords on hand to calm down the audience..
Shitson.. go have another cigarette and wreck the environment & yourself all thx to the corporations.. and then come and put your notes on the heavy machines to make your political statement.pffffff

Both of you are morons.
What happened to toleration? I’m not sure if Samson even likes hardcore or not, but you can’t respect the fact that he chooses not to play hardcore? Or does that make him a girl? You can’t respect a person’s decision to have a preference? This parallels much serious things, from toleration of gay rights to racial acceptance. FUCK YEAH DUDE, FUCKIN’ SAUSAGE PARTY!!!!!!!\m/
And poo, I don’t know you personally but if I did I’m sure I can find many things about you that are just as damning, if not more damning, than smoking cigarettes. Do you drink alcohol? Are you a vegan? Do you ride or drive in an automobile that isn’t public? Are you not using a computer right now that was manufactured by sweatshop laborers under a corporation? Is every single garmet on your back sweat shop free? Do you shop organic? Do you live in a house? Etc. I’m not endorsing smoking, nor am I saying that I’m free from being the radical’s paragon, but you are giving him far too much shit. You guys seriously need to be directing your comtempt towards someone more worthy - fuck, beyond any sort of average musician.

Um, you should play something from The Coup your next show. Another thing - who did the vocals on the G7 radio intro theme music? Yeah, cause you really suck at singing:0 Kay, bye.

I feel that if it’s ok 4 propagandhi to give shit to fat mike and point out his wrongs .. its ok 4 me to do the same.. shame my posts on the rock to ride or whatever its called were changed by christoph and d-rock.. just prooves they’re the same as every1 else eh?
Anyways in answer to ur ridiculous questions. Dont drink, dont smoke, vegan, organic, no vehicles etc..etc.. Yes I do live in a house tho.. and yes I am using a computer but it’s a commodore 64 that was made by your mom in the 80’s. Green wallpaper.. I dunno I thought i heard shitson mention it in one of his lyrics. I have all the weakerthans albums also..I don’t even know if he smokes either.. i just heard someone else say it.. and thought that would be hillarious.. cuz as i said b4.. i love it when vegan /hippie/greenie/organic farmers doing all they can for themselves + the environment walk out their front of their shops and start smoking.. it makes me laugh.. it makes me laugh..
This post will soon be deleted.. Just like an edited / watered down news article this G7committeewreckchords has so many problems with in the mainstream media.. they truly are NO DIFFERENT.. :) have a nice day anti-flag( i mean propagandhi)
