"Haiti: We Must Kill the Bandits" showing in Winnipeg

Posted by D-Rock on 09/29/06 (Shite)

Just got a note from Jordy-boy about a film showing coming up in Winipeg on October 18th. What a perfect night-after compliment to the Subhumans show at the Albert!

Filmmaker and journalist Kevin Pina will be in Winnipeg on October 18th to air his documentary “Haiti: We Must Kill the Bandits.” Pina was one of a small number of journalists in Haiti drawing attention to grave human rights violations following a 2004 coup. The film will be shown at a public screening on Wednesday, October 18th at 7 pm at the Bulman Center, University of Winnipeg.

The documentary details the social, economic and human rights conditions in Haiti during the two years following the February 2004 foreign invasion and coup that ousted the elected president Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Canadian soldiers and police took part in the invasion, along with troops from France, the United States and Chile.

The importance of Pina’s work is underscored by a major study published in the September 2006 issue of the prestigious British medical journal, The Lancet. The study estimates that in the 22 months following the coup, 8,000 people were killed and 35,000 women were victims of sexual assault in the capital city of Port au Prince alone. The study found next to no evidence of so-called “Lavalas (pro-Aristide)-inspired” violence that media in Canada frequently reported.

The Lancet study echoes findings by other human rights reports during the coup years, including by the National Lawyers Guild in the United States, and by the law departments of Harvard University and the University of Miami.

Pina’s tour is organized by CHAN-Winnipeg, and affiliate of the Canada-Haiti Action Network.

I wish I fucking lived in Winnipeg instead of the infamous nuclear disaster that is Nevada. Anyways, I also just read your guys refrence to Hugos comment about our(keep in mind I live in American’t)shitty president. hahahahahhaha Bush needed to hear some shit like that and so did the rednecks of alabama. Noam Chomsky is a great author and I’m happy he got a plug so now my next door neighbor will understand why his flag is gone and my brother and I can finally burn it on his SUV. Well, Chris if you read this SACRAFICE rules and if you wan’t to hear an asian dude from the UK shred the fuck out of a guitar, check out Dragonforce. By the way, Human Cargo is a great book and I thank you guys for having your collection of books to help me expand my understanding on alot of issues.

Shitcheah, Human Cargo kicks ass. Reading that one brought ‘Cut into the Earth’ and ‘Fuck the Border’ to a whole new level. A level that has left me feeling paralyzed from the neck down. I got a little carried away with an air guitar sesh to said songs last night, which led to a ‘Life at Disconnect’ sesh, where my head nearly completely fell off my body.

Haiti eh? I heard about that place by some guy on a really clever and right-on podcast one time. If that’s ‘juvenille’ and ‘a waste of time’, then I’ll dress up like Jesus H. Chris Hannah, and punch my own nuts for Halloween. But if it’s not, I expect another episode this month.

    Masturbating…

RE: Haiti: “We Must Kill the Bandits”

I guarantee you will never view Canadian or US foreign policy the same after seeing this documentary. It is also a devastating indictment of the UN and its new role as mercenaries for the global elites.

Don’t miss this screening!! I won’t be back again soon.

You are definatly welcome back at any time, I thought the movie was wonderful albeit not exactly as I had pictured it. I especially thought the parts about the UN shooting small children with kill-shots and threatening to give your (filmmaker/pina) pictures to the gov’t extremists were particullarily eye-opening. Fucking hell, I have such high hopes for the UN but they continually leave as if I’ve been raped in the ass and left in a cold, dark shower.
