I had seen the documentary the day it came out in Boston. It's interesting that Nader has a degree in economics from a prestigious school. With his views of corporate America, it'd be nice to hear some voice of reason in regards to the free-market.

I like Nader. He's got some wicked ideas but the problem is, how does he get exposed to the public? I would definately vote for the fucker, man.

"in fact i hate liberals more than “conservatives”. conservatives at least will tell you where they stand"-it's funny you said that.....I just said the same thing a while ago in a discussion about politics with a friend. I may have been exaggerating, I think they're both on the same page, but at least I know EXACTLY what the conservatives think. You have to hear a lot of bullshit from the dems that they support this or that, when in fact a glance at their voting record usually shows the opposite to be true.

hmmm, voting. i am pretty much anti-voting. but i get frustrated when some people have to be holier-than-thou about it, as if it is always a waste. sometimes it isn't. jello biafra convinced me of this. it matters locally. it does matter who is on the school board. the more that people stop showing up, the more likely it is that some bible ass-hat will get on the school board and turn the place into more of a mess than it already is. i always ask these shits too: okay mister philosopher, what if there's a local referendum for more bike paths through the city? are you still too cool to vote then? i live in san antonio, tx, and there are virtually NO bike paths here. there are maybe 2 or 3 major streets that have a bike lane. the area where i live? none. and, in my subsection of the city, it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk. if it wasn't, i would bike to work every day other than when it is raining (which is not often, minus this year). the buses stop running at 1030, and i get off at 130, so the bus isn't an option for me. i bused for years to college, and felt great about it. but noooo, these guys won't even vote for that!

now, for president, senator, congress, etc. who cares? i do treat that as if it is a joke, because that is what it is to me. no one who is an actual human being will make it. but if ralph nader runs, i will go and vote for him. he was kicked off the ballot in texas in 2004 (by the dems, even though they had no shot here), so i couldn't. and i didn't even pay attention in 2000. but i would vote for him. i might even cast a primary ballot for dennis kucinich, as he's by far and away the most decent person running. he's also polling about 0.5 - 1% right now too. but any of the major candidates? i won't even go outside that day. i'll mostly just watch the coverage and hope for "interesting" things to happen.

i have only seen a small clip from "an unreasonable man", and it was of eric alterman (the 4-eyed goateed weiner from "the nation" magazine) declaring that he hated nader and wanted him to leave the country and "ruin" some other place (no doubt that what's left of the natives to this land got a good chuckle from that). if he had been in the room, i really would have broken his nose. i can't stand that motherfucker. in fact i hate liberals more than "conservatives". conservatives at least will tell you where they stand: militarism, corporate welfare, cops, religious maniacs, and fascist carnage. the liberals are kind of a "hello kitty" version of the same thing. but of course they say that they're not! if these war barbarians are ever held accountable, i think you have to send the dems to the docket too. there's an equally long list of crimes with their names on it.

i've been searching for that Nader documentary, which i understand was released on dvd in mid June, but i haven't found a fucking place that carries it.

Normon Solomon has a good (in that a hard hitting, depressing cold hard truth way) today on antiwar.com on the perpetual american miliarism. Then i read that article Saoirse linked and i became even more disheartened and enraged. Another reminder that my goddamned tax money is being spent to murder people who have never done anything to me!

AAaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAArrrrrrrrrrrrrrRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHH!

Now i know this is a matter compared to stopping the carnage, but does it drive anyone else absolutely bat shit crazy that all the intellectual architects of this insane war are, to a man, fucking cowards who would never put themeselves or their fucking families in harms way???

I mean fuck, look at that fucking monster Cheney. That piece of human exrement got 5 deferments from Vietnam, a war he totally endorsed. Then that half-retard Bush skates out of 'Nam through the National Guard, though he too supported military action there.

Naturally, i would still vehemently oppose& condemn these psychos even if they had put there life on the line in a war before, but the fact that they opted not to "fight for their country" when they had the chance but so thoughtlessly send others to battle to start a bloodbath is just fucking unbelievable. I think these fucks will truly go down as the greatest hypocrytical, cowardly wretches in the history of human leaders.

The more I read this guy, the more I like him, but his books are pretty expensive. That looks like a pretty decent site too.
I followed a link to this thing: http://www.thenation.com/doc/20070730/hedges
which is thus far pretty fucking devastating reading.

As for Nader, we have a similar argument over here every time we have a local election. At this point I'm pretty sick of being berated for "betraying my community" when I don't vote for who I'm expected to vote for. It absolutely fills me with despair that people will vociferously attack people trying to provide a genuine alternative... this is not democracy.

Great article, I forgot to mention that. I especially liked the part about people such as Michael Moore criticizing the ego of Nader. Ha ha, if that's not hypocrisy I don't know what is.

First, kudos on the effort with Nader, David. I just wanted to add that although it's not surprising, it's still amazing to me how angry people (by people I mean people of the "liberal" democrat persuasion) get when mentioning the Nader campaign. I can't understand how people who consider themselves progressive continue to believe that Democrats are somehow going to change "the system", end the occupation(s), etc. If I actually thought my state (New Jersey) would go any other way other than liberal every election, I'd have gone out and voted for Nader. I actually regret it; I should have voted for him. I've been registered since I was 18, and I'm 25 now, and the only things I ever considered voting for/against are ballot initiatives or local elections. Let me stress the word consider. I've never actually wasted my time going to the polls. Just thinking about the whole shitty "democracy" we have here makes me angry, sad and disheartened all at once.

I'd like to share a story with anyone bothering to read this blog.

In 2004 I worked on the Nader campaign here in Missouri, the heart of the bible belt and a traditionally conservative state. While working at the polls on election night me and and a fellow campaigner were engaging the voting public largely via flyers and pamphlets articulating why Nader was far more experienced and able to challenge what he calls the "corporate duopoly" of the Democratic/Republican parties. At some point we began a discussion with a local registered Democrat who told both of us working (I stress the word "working"---the local Democrats at the polls were sitting on their collective asses) that "...if you ruin Kerry's chances I'll personally find out where you live and kick your asses." The onlooking Democrats seemed amused and went back to doing nothing. We told this shitbag that we had what we thought to be noble intentions for putting our normal lives on hold to help raise awareness about this candidate that Democrats and liberals simply ignored or worse, condemned. After that John Kerry lost the election to George Bush. The liberals drove their new cars back to the suburbs. The occupation of Iraq continued. The rich continued to get richer and the poor were told to keep waiting for a rich Democrat on a white horse (to use Jello Biafra's apt phrasing).

The End (?)
