Quotes from a funny, funny man

Posted by D-Rock on 10/31/06 (Shite)

I just came across this article on ChartAttack-dot-com - generally a steaming pile of a website - regarding Propagandhi’s winning of the ECHO songwriting award. I was blown away by the genius embodied in Todd “The Rod” Kowalski’s comments to the press. I live for stuff like this.

“As far as having scenesters pick songs, their various reasons and knowing how all this comes about and… everything, knowing how it works, as far as that’s concerned, [the award] is meaningless,” he says. “Things in music are about being hip, or else Garnet Rogers would win this award, y’know?

There are a few other nuggets in there too.

wow, todd is a genius. wow, garnet rogers. congratulations to propagandhi for winning a prize given out by industry-douchebags, and for keeping true and donating it to those groups.

i wonder how much they’ll spend on beans?

haha Todd’s a King. But I still like pouty photos.

I’d like to take this time to recommend for all to see Leftover Crack, those guys kick ass, and those splatter punks know how to party.

Looks like I’m gonna have to look into this Garnet Rogers character.

    Happy Halloween!!!

That’s pretty funny stuff. I wish there was a video of that interview. Speaking of videos..

Howard Zinn is doing a lecture tonight at Boston University. Although I’m a student there, I don’t know if they’ll let me in because I’ve heard the lecture hall is already filled up with students from other schools as well. But if I can make it, i’ll try and sneak in my digital camera to tape and youtube that sucker.

    Happy World Vegan Day everybody!

I was wondering as I was tooling myself last night about SOCAN and their choosing of propagandhi as canada’s most important band ever. I came to the conclusion that the only reason the prop boys could have won is because everyone at SOCAN believes so strongly- in fact, probably lives by every single word in that song. they will start a SOCAN revolution and the slogan to their revolution will be “enough of your stupid fucking laser pucks”.

well, my Derek Hogue Halloween outfit worked out great! I won 1st prize! i had to shave my head to the that bald look down pat, and then drop a cinder block on my face no less than 23 times to get my face to even closely resemble the hoguemeisters. then i rolled around in piles of frozen methane and sulfur and my costume was complete! then i had an air guitar sesh to some DK song from “back in the day™.”

Is it me or Jord looks like Andy Summers?

I had a dream with Todd in it last night: all I can remember is we were banging our heads to that Priestess track ‘lay down’. Who knows…

All I do know is that there was no techno music, cocaine, or sexual fart-smelling…

    OMG I Fricken Love Propogondhi!!!

Haha. Todd’s comments sounded were very similar to what Johnny Rotten had to say in a recent interview regarding the VH1 Awards. That’s no dig either cuz I like Johnny Rotten and I can’t help but think the Sex Pistols had at least some kind of influence on Propagandhi, especially on HTCE.

“ever feel like you’ve been cheated”

On an unrelated note, anyone ever heard of Jeff Monson? The dude is shredded mass and a top contender in the UFC. I bet most people on the left would see him and immediately pigeon hole/stereotype him as an meatheaded asshole. But meatheaded asshole he is most definitely not.

Check this interview where he articulates his views on anarchy:

Holy shite. I just found out he’s sponsored by AK Press!?!

  • Comment by Marc on November 23rd, 2006 at 10:05 am:

Then, I assume he made a mistake by saying he supports “free trade”?

  • Comment by dumdiddee on November 23rd, 2006 at 5:05 pm:

Yeah, i think he meant to say “fair” trade.

  • Comment by Hairhole on November 23rd, 2006 at 7:35 pm:

Monson would whoop your ass ‘marc’.

Thanks for the link bro. I watched that fight last weekend, with a lot of my buddies who have no idea what I’m talking about (probably because I don’t have any idea what I’m talking about) when I try to fart about smashing our current system. WElll, I sent them this here link to that Monson interview, who was obviously expecting those questions from that intelligent interviewer, and I they all enjoyed it.

Until now, they thought all socially conscious people were zitty, dweeby, chronic masturbators.

    I wonder if he’s a vegan…

Hairhole - yeah man, i was just blown away cuz you just don’t expect to hear non self-aggrandizing words coming out of an “Alpha” males mouth. the dude is like a compassionate barbarian. I guess i was reverse stereotyping him I betcha him and the Rod would get along famously.
