stalling...that's exactly what it is about. creating "facts on the ground" -- settlements. they will "cease" building settlements just like the other 15 or 20 or 87 times that they have said that they will. then they'll keep doing it, and palestinians will be backed into a corner. and they'll do what any group of people do when that happens: they'll fight back. and it will be swallowed by the sheep that watch the news in the west as "terrorism", which will "justify" more israeli repression, theft, and terror ("defense"), which will cause more retaliation by the palestinians. and it'll keep happening until the the israelis have everything they want.

I have not read the book, "The Road Map to Nowhere," but will definetely do so within the next few months as time permits. That being said please take my uninformed opinion with a grain of salt. It appears to me what is happening here is nothing more than a delay tactic. The same one that the North Koreans and Iranians were accused of perpetrating during their own so called, "talks," with the Americans over nuclear energy/weapons (depending on your opinion). I remember hearing and reading much talk of both parties coming to the table to talk with the notion already in their heads that they would concede nothing and would only be using the table as a tool in their delay tactic.

In my opinion this is similar to what the Isrealies are doing. However, the difference in this situation is that the Isreali's are not the underdogs in these talks. As it benefited the American government's goal of perpetuating the idea that the world is a dangerous and uncertain place by not having the North Korean talks or the Iranians talks go anywhere it is the same for the Isreali's. One may say that the North Koreans talks did go somewhere but it is my opinion that North Korea could not be attacked by Washington due to the Chinese.

In this situation the Americans (The Bear) have invited the Isrealis (The Wolf) and the Palestinians (The Hare) to the table to discuss what's for dinner. I would not be surprised to hear the talks ended because the Palestinians were not willing to give up enough. For now though their delay tactics will work as they have worked so many times before. I say delay tactics because it doesn't appear the Isrealis will be stopping new contruction in the debated areas during the talks.

**Disclaimer** When I reference the Americans, the Isrealis, the Palestinians I speak of their respective governments not their people. People have too many different ideas, opinions and motives to be put into a group but governments always have agendas.

It's definitely worth noting that Western coverage of the so-called "peace process" is always predicated upon the assumption that it is only Palestinians who must make concessions. The very fact that the Israeli government continues to build (illegal) settlements and destroy Palestinian homes makes it clear that they are not at all interested in peace. This charade will be no more successful in achieving a real peace than Oslo or Camp David. I predict it will, however, buttress the current oversimplified, agenda-laden framing of the conflict, thus perpetuating the suffering of both Israelis and Palestinians.
