Description

After 8 years tearing up the Québec hardcore and metal scenes, and releasing three albums independently, Québec City's GFK (Government's Fury Kills) are ready to launch their heaviest and most seditious record to date. If Liberty Isn't Given, It Should Be Taken is a huge leap forward from 2002's In Defence of Politics on all fronts – their blend of serrated metallic riffs and surging hardcore is crazier, the band is tighter, the lyrics more honed. As the title implies, GFK are not ones to beat around the bush and leave lyrical interpretation up to the listener – these are straight up, yet intelligent and thoughtful manifestos, railing against contemporary injustices from the local to the global scale. (The CD booklet also includes song explanations in English, French, and Spanish.)

As a side note, these dudes have also somehow managed to successfully mix helicopter hair-twirls with roundhouse kicks and fullbody guitar spins in their live show. No small feat!

The sonically-relentless production and rapid-fire sequencing are courtesy of acclaimed metal engineer Pierre Remillard (Cryptopsy, Misery Index, Starkweather) in the mixing and mastering chair. Rest assured, this disc will LITERALLY tear your head off. LITERALLY.
